The island of Batam in Indonesia is only a 45 minute ferry ride away from Singapore and although this island is part of Indonesia, when staying at either of the two popular resorts Harris and Holiday Inn, you will have no clue that you are in Indonesia. All of the staff speak English and more significantly every thing is in Singapore dollars and Singapore pricing. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and did every thing you are supposed to do when staying in a resort. Sleep in, make your way down to the breakfast buffet before it closes, and lounge by the pool all day. The Holiday Inn was perfect for a 2 night getaway, the breakfast buffet was excellent and the highlight of the trip was the amazing seafood buffet dinner that was very reasonably priced for what it had to offer. A large selection of many different barbecued seafoods including crab, an array of meat including rack of lamb and many different salads & pastas. We highly recommend it.
Although these two resorts are close to the ocean, the beaches are not nice so expect to do all of your lounging around the pool instead. What you can do if you want to get out of your resort is to try out some of the many different water sports they have within walking distance or the go carts. Harris Resort has many different activities including bowling and a flying fox making this resort excellent for families and we love the massive pool.
Batam is a great getaway for people like us, that need to be forced to relax. It's a great opportunity to leave the laptops at home and try to do as little as possible. Which we all need sometimes right?
Thanks for letting us know, we will look into it.
