The Coastal Settlement is an East coast hidden gem. Tucked away past Changi Village and not far from the airport, you can't get much further East than here. This big funky restaurant and bar has a large capacity that is reached by 7:30 on a Saturday night, so arrive early or expect to wait in line.
Families will enjoy the backyard seating with a kids play area full of vintage amusement park parts. For a drink, pull a seat up at the bar or surrounding bar tables or have a seat at one of the numerous indoor or outdoor dining areas to enjoy a nice meal. No matter where you sit, vintage everything surrounds you. Vespas, bicycles, suitcases, chairs, building parts, cups hanging from the wall. Everything old makes up the decor. And it's fun!
The Coastal Settlement menu covers a good selection of Western and Asian dishes: salads, steaks, fish and chips, pastas, Asian noodle dishes and an appetising dessert menu. For our table of three we had the Cranberry & Spinach Salad (S$14), Baby Back Ribs (S$34), Crab Pesto Spaghetti (S$23) and Char Kway Teow (S$16). Everything was beyond expectations and the portions were too big for us to comfortably finish... so we uncomfortably finished 'cause it was that good.
No matter where you live in Singapore, I say it's worth the trek. Maybe make a day trip of it and visit Ikea on your way like the couple sitting next to us.
If you stop by for a visit, let us know which are your favourite dishes!
