Canggu Restaurant Guide

Canggu is Seminyak’s hip little brother - he's trendy, way more chill and loves to eat organic, local produce whenever possible. Located a few kilometers up from Seminyak, Canggu is set amongst rice paddy fields, with a nice black sand beach and waves for beginners through to experts. Here the shops are full of stylish bikinis and locally made beach wear and sit along side trendy cafés and restaurants.

The dining scene in Canggu is perfect for any budget from tasty and cheap warung style restaurants to high end international delights. Here’s our Canggu Restaurant Guide.

Crate Cafe

This Australian owned café is somewhat of an institution in Canggu and feels like it’s been plucked straight off a high-street in Melbourne. The only difference is the prices are a fourth of what you would pay in Oz. Crate serves up a delicious range of perfectly plated breakfast grub, fresh smoothies and real flat whites and latés. Choose from smoothie bowls, poached eggs with mushrooms, spinach, tomato and fresh bread (awesome gluten free bread as well!). A house favourite is their French toast with banana, maple syrup and bacon! Almost every morning you’ll find Crate buzzing with people but the tables move fast so hang around a couple minutes and you’ll be able to squeeze in. The prices here are unbelievably good at around 50k for almost any breakfast option. It’ll have you coming back day after day.

The Canteen

Another popular spot with the breakfast crowd, Canteen does a pretty mean breakfast. Most come for the set breakfast menu for 50k which gives you the option of fresh juice or fresh fruit and coffee or tea to accompany your choice of breakfast. They do a refreshingly good Canteen lemonade with mint and ginger and the bacon and egg rolls are so huge you may need to wait a couple hours before hitting the waves.

The Shady Shack

This trendy veggie eatery offers a pretty tropical setting to enjoy a delicious range of veggie, vegan and gluten free fare. The open face omelette and smoothie bowls make for a great start to the day and the gluten free bread here is so good. They also have a nice range of smoothies, fresh juice, and refreshing slushies.

Local Fare - Canggu Restaurant Guide

Varuna

This cheap and cheerful warung (small local restaurant) is only a short walk from the beach and offers a revolving array of local dishes to choose from. Pick your rice: white, red or yellow and just start pointing as you fill your plate with corn fritters, fried tempe, fresh veggies, and grilled and fried meats. The prices here are unbelievably good with a plate of rice and an assortment of veggie dishes starting from 17k! If you’re hungry and love to sample local dishes this is the place to go.

Warung Bu Mi

Another budget friendly warung serving yummy local food is Bu Mi. A bit further up from the beach with similar prices as Varuna you’ll be able to get your food fill for next to nothing. This place gets busy during the dinner rush but you can almost always grab a seat.

Dandelion

The whimsical atmosphere of Dandelion and their unique twists on Balinease and Indonesian fare are not to be missed in Canggu. Here you’ll find furry bunnies bouncing around the garden and fairy lights setting the mood in the evening.

International Fare - Canggu Restaurant Guide

Osteria Italian

When the craving for a cheesy pizza slice hits you, head to Osteria for delicious thin crust pizza served in a lovely setting overlooking a rice paddy field. The pizzas here are large enough to share and they also do some good looking pastas.

Betelnut Cafe

This two storey restaurant always seems to draw a crowd. Serving a mash up of different cuisines from Indonesian to Mexican, to some of the best cheesecake in Bali, you’ll find something to please any palate here.

Pokepoke Canggu

This refreshing little joint has a Hawaiian theme to suit their tropical Poke Bowls. If you’ve never had a poke before it’s a bowl of rice topped with fresh salad and raw tuna. For dessert try one of the sweet roti’s from the adjoining restaurant Roti Canai.

Little Flinders

The bright lights of Little Flinders are easy to spot along the main strip of Batu Bolong. Perfect for a quiet and romantic meal, the well-presented dishes here can be inconsistent with meals sometimes looking prettier than they taste.
